Heart Myth or Fact #21: Heart disease can affect children


5,920. That is the number of cardiac arrests estimated to strike children each year. Heart disease isn’t an affliction of just the elderly. It can affect people of all ages including children.

Congenital heart disease, infections of the heart, overeating and under-exercising are all heart related issues that affect children.

Childhood obesity is becoming a growing issue in the United States. Due to unhealthy diets and lack of exercise, heart disease is becoming more prevalent at younger ages.
